Dubrovnik, Croatia

 We docked right at the port and it was amazing to see how slowly the ship can move and how smooth it was.  Once again the surrounding area is beautiful with islands and mountains all around.

We had breakfast and headed off to shuttle busses that would take us to the old part of town. Old Dubrovnik is a walled town and we were dropped off at the ancient entrance at the Pile Gate.  Instead of going into the old town we first walked up the hill to the cable car.  It was a nice ride up to the top of the mountain and beautiful views of all the islands around, we could also see the entire walled old town Dubrovnik.

We rode back down and entered through the walls which can be 3 to 19 feet thick and are 6,200 feet long.  There are two great fortresses guarding each approach.  Yes we paid our Kuna and climbed some more steps.  You climb up to the top and walk the walls.  You get so many different views and see so much of the old town.    It was fairly warm and sometimes hot when you didn’t get the breeze so we only walked about half way around and decided to head down and find a café to get something to drink and eat.  Nice little café and very nice people there.  After lunch we stopped to get a gelato…. Is was the best I’ve ever had.  So smooth and creamy.  Yum!

We walked around the center of town and picked up some wonderful oregano olive oil which will be used next time I make spaghetti sauce.  Very nice smooth surface for walking, not like yesterday when it was rough and bumpy walkways.

We headed back to the ship and enjoyed some down time.  We got together and participated in the “Name that Melody” in one of the lounges.  We did pretty well and got third place.  Then on to the next trivia place and placed third again along with many others.  But it was fun.

We had dinner reservations at the Lawn Club Grille on one of the top decks.  It’s an outdoor dining place where you can make your own flatbread for an appetizer.  What fun we had throwing our pizza dough up in the air.  It is a real meat place where you can pick several different type of meat and seafood for dinner.  I ordered a steak kabob and a shrimp and scallop kabob.  The waiter brought us lamb chops to try and they were so delicious.  We had sides like homemade creamed corn and lobster mac and cheese.  Then came dessert which was a warm chocolate chip cookie in a small dish with vanilla ice cream.  We were so stuffed…… really just about miserable but we couldn’t stop trying things.  It was a really fun, casual evening. 

After dinner we went and checked out the pictures from the last two nights.
